In order to better serve our clients, we are changing the way we process J-1 visa applications. Effective January 1, 2014, we will no longer accept the paper version of our application.
We will be eliminating non-expedite service, and changing our processing times to 5 business days to review your application materials after you have submitted the completed online application and made payment. All applications will now be processed on an expedited timeline. This change in application processing corresponds with an increase in our fees. Our program fee will increase to $1,450, and we will charge an additional $450 as a non-refundable review fee that will be paid regardless of whether or not we issue the DS 2019. As is our current policy, if we deny your application and do not issue the DS 2019, we refund you all program fees ($1,450), insurance fees ($57/month per person), or the SEVIS fee ($180), but as of January 1, 2014 we will NOT refund the $450 application review fee.
We are also making several changes to the group insurance policy we offer to our J-1 participants and their dependents. Read the Insurance Group Policy Changes section below for more information.
Below is a summary of the different changes that will go into effect on January 1, 2014:
Effective Dec. 1, 2013 the fee for new enrollment or extensions in the group Insurance policy we offer as an option to all of our J participants will increase to $57/person/month. Current enrollments will not be affected unless an extension is requested. An extension will be considered a new enrollment.
Placements in all US states and territories will again be covered.
New coverage will include a small dental benefit for sudden and unexpected pain.
Application Process Changes:
Effective January 1, 2014 all applications must be submitted through the on-line system. Part of the application process will include an initial eligibility questionnaire, the completion of application information, uploading required documents, and scheduling the interview between our staff and the J-1 applicant via webcam.
Webcam Interview Changes:
The webcam interview will be scheduled at the time the application is submitted. Appointment times will be limited to staff availability to manage both expectations and workflow. Staff availability may limit the number of applications that can be reviewed in a given week.
All application review will be based on first in/first reviewed:
Effective January 1, 2014 the American Immigration Council will process all applications on a first in/first reviewed basis. Webcam interviews may occur before the application is finalized if information is insufficient.
Fee Structure Changes:
Effective January 1, 2014, upon submission of the application, the following fees must be paid –
$180 SEVIS Fee
$1450 Program Fee
$450 Application Review Fee (non-refundable)
Optional fees will include –
$57/person/month group insurance fee
$500 first time small site host visit fee ($250 refundable if application not accepted)
