The leading metro area in the U.S. for H-1B worker demand, based on the number of requests as a percentage of available jobs in the area, is California’s San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara corridor, according to a new Brookings Institute study released July 18.
The H-1B visa program allows workers from foreign countries with specialized skills to come work in the U.S. for a temporary period, granted in three-year increments.
In the second and third places for the visa demand, however, are two metro areas generally not known as H-1B magnets: Columbus, Indiana, and the Durham-Chapel Hill area in North Carolina.
