Editorial: Same Old Fearmongering from Trump

The charlatan masquerading as the GOP nominee for president continued his smoke-and-mirrors act Wednesday. After a quick and mild-mannered meeting with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, Donald Trump switched gears and offered his usual fire and brimstone take on immigration in a speech in Phoenix.

The speech had been touted as a major policy statement on immigration; instead, it generally offered the same old Trump rhetoric on the dangers of immigration and the same old unworkable policies to get tough on immigration. Anyone hoping that Trump would use the speech to strike a more nuanced stance on immigration was disappointed, and that’s an understatement.
