Statement from NAE Executive Director Jeremy Robbins on Biden Administration Plans to Rebuild Refugee Resettlement

After the announcement that the Biden-Harris administration plans to increase the number of refugees who can enter the U.S., New American Economy issued the following statement:

“For decades, the U.S. has led the world in refugee resettlement, offering a safe haven to people fleeing violence and persecution and a chance for them to build better lives for themselves and their children,” said Jeremy Robbins, Executive Director of New American Economy. “After the Trump administration nearly dismantled the U.S. refugee resettlement program, today’s announcement makes clear that America will honor our humanitarian values and also recognize the invaluable contributions refugees have already made to this country as essential workers, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and neighbors. We look forward to working with the Biden administration and communities across the country to rebuild the program and to once again welcome those seeking refuge on our shores.”
