The American Immigration Council submitted a written statement to the House Judiciary Committee for a September 16, 2016 hearing on “Oversight of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement.” The statement shares our analysis and research regarding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and its impact on immigrants and their communities. The statement specifically calls to attention our concerns about over-broad enforcement actions and detention of asylum seekers and families. The statement shares and describes the Immigration Council’s publications on these critical issues and should serve to inform the Committee’s assessment of ICE’s work in these areas and addresses areas in need of a policy or procedural shift.
