The American Immigration Council joined a coalition of 129 labor, immigration, civil rights and religious organizations calling for members of the House of Representatives to vote against the anti-immigrant bill H.R.2 Secure the Border Act of 2023. The bill, would dismantle the U.S. asylum system and cause immeasurable harm to immigrant communities, among other things, by: establishing dozens of new restrictions on asylum, eliminating protections for unaccompanied children, jailing immigrant families, restarting the Trump administration’s “Remain in Mexico” border policy, resuming the construction of a border wall, and increasing the backlog at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
