In response to a growing array of alleged civil rights infractions and incidences of racial profiling associated with the the 287(g) program, the Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, Refugees, Border Security, and International Law and the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties are holding a hearing investigating the program’s alarming effects.

The 287(g) program is a partnership which establishes a partnership between local law enforcement and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that allows police to enforce immigration laws locally. Yet, as recent reports by Justice Strategies and the University of North Carolina and the ACLU point out, a growing array of alleged civil rights infractions and incidences of racial profiling have come with the program’s expansion.
