Statement for the House Judiciary Committee on “Birthright Citizenship: Is it the Right Policy for America?”

The American Immigration Council submitted a written statement to the House Committee on the Judiciary for an April 29, 2015 hearing on “Birthright Citizenship: Is it the Right Policy for America?” The statement details our research and policy analysis on why attempts to restrict “birthright citizenship” would be unconstitutional, unnecessary, impractical, counterproductive, and contrary to American values. The statement also expresses our desire to implement substantial changes to our immigration system and not just ineffective and harmful punishments on immigrants. Included with our statements are factsheets and reports that help to provide a more in-depth analysis on the issue of birthright citizenship.
