The Austin Human Rights Commission, in partnership with the city of Austin, Austin Area Chamber of Commerce, and Riverland Community College has announced a community conversation on “Building a More Inclusive Austin” from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, at the Hormel Historic Home.
The goal of the conversation is to get community input on Austin’s Strategic Welcoming Plan, which is being developed by the mayor’s Strategic Welcoming Taskforce. The final recommendations will be presented to the Austin City Council in mid-May. The event is free.
“The 2017 Welcoming Report identified the barriers that need to be lowered to make Austin a truly welcoming community,” said Jason Baskin, chairman of the Austin Human Rights Commission, through a press release. “This strategic plan will allow our community to have a clear definition of success and actionable recommendations to start lowering those barriers.”
The event will include a special presentation from national partners Welcome America and New American Economy, which awarded Austin one of the nationally-competitive “Gateways for Growth” grants to help develop the Strategic Welcoming Plan.
