The city of Bowling Green was recently selected to receive services to analyze how the city’s foreign-born population can be better integrated into the local workforce.
Earlier this year, the city applied for a grant specifically to fund a study to help determine the best ways the area’s foreign-born population can help fill the thousands of job openings in the region.
Officials were recently notified that the city was selected to receive such a study through a program called Gateways for Growth offered through the New American Economy and Welcoming America organizations.
The city’s international communities liaison, Leyda Becker, said the research will be a valuable tool.
“Anyone will have access to this research product,” which will “help develop strategies to better integrate new Americans to the community,” she said, with a focus on employment opportunities.
Bowling Green’s foreign-born population makes up about 13.5 percent of those in the local workforce, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.
