On at least one immigration matter, President Barack Obama and challenger Mitt Romney appear to agree: There are needless obstacles to putting the world’s best technology minds to work in America.
Thousands of international students flock to U.S. universities, the president said in his State of the Union address. “But as soon as they obtain advanced degrees, we send them back home to compete against us. It makes no sense.”
Indeed.
Romney says he would “staple a green card to the diploma” of foreign students who earn graduate degrees in the so-called STEM fields of science, technology, engineering and math.
