It’s been about a year since Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Alejandro Mayorkas spoke at length about a new plan to ease work-visa rules and “fuel the nation’s economy and stimulate investment by attracting foreign entrepreneurial talent of exceptional ability.”
But one year later, there is still no improvement, and high-tech industry insiders say the matter — particularly as it applies to the H1B visa (issued temporarily to “highly skilled” foreign workers) — is only dragging on the state’s high-tech industry at a time when many company’s have the means and desire to expand.
