LORAIN — Immigration reform will help the agricultural businesses in north central Ohio, said state Rep. Terry Boose.
The Norwalk Republican was one of three speakers discussing the effects of immigration reform on Ohio’s farm economy during a Tuesday conference call sponsored by the Partnership for a New American Economy.
Boose was joined by Rachel Vonderhaar, a Camden farmer and vice president of Ohio Agri-Women, and farmer Chris Gibbs, who also is chairman of the Shelby County Republican Party. The three praised U.S. Rep. John Boehner, who is speaker of the House, for drafting new Standards for Immigration Reform as part of a House Republican Conference meeting last week.
They also emphasized the economic need to reform immigration rules for people who come to the United States to work.
The nation’s immigration system is broken, leaving U.S. borders vulnerable and American businesses at a global competitive disadvantage, Boose said.
