Op-ed: H-1B visa reform will ensure America retains its innovative status

Pick a problem that troubles our country today. It could be the rough shape of our infrastructure or the emergence of frightening new diseases. It might be the threat of terrorism or challenges to our economic influence around the globe.

As an American, you’re probably optimistic that we can solve every problem. I know I am — especially if we put enough bright and capable minds to the task. We’ve proven that to the world time and time again, with efforts like the Manhattan Project and the Apollo missions to the moon.

That’s what makes the Immigration Innovation Act of 2015 so exciting. Introduced by Sen. Orrin Hatch and supported on a bipartisan basis (including Sens. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., and Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., among others as co-sponsors), the “I-Squared” Act is a long-overdue fix for the roadblocks stopping high-skilled immigrants who want to work here.
