Report: More immigrant-owned businesses being founded

Companies owned by immigrants employ one of every 10 people working in private companies, according to a report from the Partnership for a New American Economy.

Immigrants were responsible for 28 percent of new businesses in the U.S. in 2011, the report found. Immigrant-owned startups generated more than $775 billion in revenue.

Since 1996, immigrant-owned businesses have increased by more than 50 percent. In contrast, startup businesses by native-born Americans have declined by about 10 percent since 1996.
