Your Role

The Development Manager advances the Council’s mission by working with other development staff and the executive director to secure the Council’s development goals. The Development Manager is responsible for cultivating prospective and new donors, securing gifts, and stewardship of donors.

The Manager’s portfolio includes both (1) managing annual and periodic fundraising events, including an annual gala, to achieve fundraising goals; and (2) managing a portfolio of donors, separate from event fundraising. Both the event fundraising and other fundraising involves cultivating relationships with the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) members and their Chapter leadership to secure funding.

As with all positions at the Council, this position requires commitment to the Council’s mission and the organization’s culture of philanthropy.

Essential Job Functions

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Manages Portfolio

  • Manages a portfolio of current donors and solicits and secures new gifts to generate a designated portion of the Council’s revenue budget. The portfolio includes AILA members and chapters and event sponsors and attendees, as well as other donors (e.g., law firms, individuals, corporations), as assigned.
  • Executes cultivation plans that identify the donor’s motivations and values and how they connect with the organization.
  • Executes stewardship plans that show appreciation for the donor and further solidify the donor’s relationship with the organization and lead to additional support.
  • Uses customer relationship management software (CRM) and other platforms to research, coordinate, track ,and report fundraising efforts, including tracking information to accurately calculate return on investment (ROI).
  • Works with other development and programmatic staff to ensure coordination of cultivation, asks and stewardship activities.
  • Contributes to the general needs of the development department to ensure all fundraising goals are met.
  • Develops an understanding of the organization’s specific projects and endeavors and articulates the need for support.
  • Performs other related duties and tasks as assigned. 

Identifies Targets

  • Develops and presents donor prospectus/profiles by conducting searches within the organization’s CRM, using wealth predictor software and other data, to identify potential targets to cultivate.
  • Works with Board, staff and other surrogates to identify potential targets outside of the organization’s CRM.

Events

  • Secures sponsorships and ticket sales for the events to meet fundraising goals for each event.
  • Manages Council’s annual and periodic fundraising events, including an annual gala.
  • Manages and collaborates with the event planners for the Council’s two annual events.
  • Works with executive director and board to secure honorees and entertainment for events.

Other

  • Works with other development and programmatic staff to ensure coordination of cultivation, asks and stewardship activities.
  • Contributes to the general needs of the development department to ensure all fundraising goals are met.
  • Develops an understanding of the organization’s specific projects and endeavors and articulates the need for support.
  • Performs other related duties and tasks as assigned. 

Required Education and Experience

  • 3-4 years relevant experience
