Your Role …

The Digital Communications Specialist will serve on the Communications team to elevate and advance awareness of the Council’s mission and brand across all digital channels (website, emails, and socials media channels). This position will work closely with all departments and initiatives to promote the Council’s programmatic work and meet fundraising objectives. The position serves as the organization’s authority on digital communications strategy, digital campaigns, tracks engagement of Council audiences, and adapts digital strategies to further engage, grow and segment our audiences. The position manages graphic design needs for publications, promotional materials, and digital properties, and collaborates in the development, maintenance, and advancement of the Council’s brand so that we remain a leader in the immigration space.

This position requires experience in digital communications and marketing strategy, website management and maintenance, and graphic design.

As with all positions at the Council, this position requires commitment to the Council’s mission.

Candidates in Washington, DC are preferred, although this position may be performed remotely. Council employees will be working remotely until the end of 2021 due to COVID-19.

Requirements

College level coursework in a creative field to include marketing, digital content delivery, website or media design.

To perform successfully in this role, incumbent should possess skills identified below:

  • At least 3 years of experience with digital strategy and website development (Drupal and WordPress experience desired).
  • At least 1-3 years of experience in communications.
  • Experience with digital engagement of audiences within the non-profit sector.
  • Training in communications, marketing, and/or web/graphic design.
  • Strong project management skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all types of individuals both internal and external.
  • Strong writing/editing and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to organize, multi-task, and prioritize multiple projects.

Essential Job Functions

Digital Strategy

  • Identify opportunities and execute strategies to showcase the Council’s work and capitalize on fundraising opportunities across digital channels.
  • Regularly assess digital user trends and activity to enhance digital content performance and propose new and creative growth opportunities to promote the Council brand.
  • Direct and manage contractors (including web developers, graphic designers, paid social media advertisers, and Google Grants) to develop digital assets and content.
  • Plans, executes, and measures digital engagement experiments and user/audience conversion tests.
  • Identifies critical conversion and drop off points to improve/enhance funnel optimization on Council’s website.
  • Understands and stays current on digital communications best practices for social media and email marketing to improve audience communication engagement and fundraising efforts.  
  • Measures and reports performance of all digital marketing campaigns and assesses against goals.
  • Creates and executes plan to better understand and categorize email audiences/ segmentation.

Website Management and Strategy

  • Thinks strategically about how to best use the website to showcase our programmatic work and its value to users. 
  • Responsible for the production and posting of content to the Council’s website. Manages and collaborates with external web developers to enhance the user experience for Council’s website.
  • Maintains the Council’s website by regularly reviewing web server and application performance.
  • Assist in the Search Engine Optimization of content to generate traffic to website.
  • Tracks and reviews related metrics by regularly reviewing web server and application performance.

Brand Management  

  • Assists in developing the Council’s brand, voice, and online reputation across digital channels.
  • Create the look, layout, and features of digital properties.
  • Designs the layout for Council publications, graphics, and collateral materials consistent with the Council’s brand.

 Social Media

  • Monitors engagement and works with comms team members to adjust strategy and develop topline/compelling messaging.
  • Plan, write, and distribute all social media copy on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

Graphic Design

  • Assists with graphic design tasks (marketing events, email) and formatting of Council publications.
