We are...

The Immigration Justice Campaign is a collaboration between the  American Immigration Council and the American Immigration Lawyers Association.  The Campaign is a broad-based project to activate a community of lawyers (and  other volunteers with supporting skills) to defend detained immigrants facing  removal and to advocate for due process and justice for noncitizens targeted for  immigration enforcement.

Your Role

The Justice Campaign’s Operations Manager will  serve on the Leadership team of the Immigration Justice Campaign and will  oversee the Campaign’s operations. The Operations Manager will analyze the  team’s operational processes, find ways to enhance the quality of our work and  work experience, and ensure that we have clear and effective systems in place  for project management, decision making, and collaboration (within and across  teams) to ensure smooth operations, maximize our impact and meet our goals.

This role will oversee and manage the following processes for the Campaign:  annual planning and goal-setting; tracking and assessing our progress toward  these goals; organizing team meetings, retreats and convenings; designing and  implementing operational policies and strategies (in collaboration with Human  Resources); budgeting (in collaboration with Finance); hiring, onboarding and  supporting staff and contractors (in collaboration with Human Resources); database  and website management and data analysis; grants management (in collaboration  with Development); contracts management (in collaboration with Finance); and  IT resource management (in collaboration with AILA IT). The Operations Manager  is also responsible for coordinating a large hybrid remote/in-person team,  with team members distributed across the country.

The Operations Manager works closely with Human Resources and other senior  leaders to build a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace where everyone’s  success and wellbeing is supported and valued, maximizes each person’s ability  to participate, and builds team cohesion.

This position will lead the Campaign’s Operations team. This includes  responsibility for ensuring that the Operations team meets its goals,  participating on the Campaign’s Leadership team, and helping fellow team leads  identify and implement successful project management and other processes for  their teams.

This position reports to the Immigration Justice Campaign Director and will  help the Director and the Leadership team implement organizational and  Campaign objectives, strategies, policies and tactics. Big-picture thinking  and adaptability, as well as strong interpersonal skills, organizational  skills, and personal and professional judgment, are necessary for this role.

Essential Job Functions will include:

  • Ensure that Campaign policies and processes are created and implemented in a way that builds a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace where everyone’s success and wellbeing is supported and valued, maximizes each person’s ability to participate, and builds team cohesion.
  • Assess and analyze the Campaign’s budget to find ways to minimize expenses and optimize revenue.
  • Engage with the Director and the Leadership team in long-term planning to further the Campaign’s overall goals
  • Inspire and motivate staff to perform at their best through positive encouragement and other initiatives
  • Identify potential problems and points of friction and work to find solutions
  • Ensure that the Operations team meets its goals.
  • Communicate and collaborate regularly with other senior leaders at the Council in executing these responsibilities, to keep them informed of shifting Campaign policies and priorities and to strategize about the operational plans and needs of the Campaign and the organization as a whole.
  • Identify and organize professional development opportunities for staff and managers as needed.
  • Manage additional operations-related tasks as they arise.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of operations management experience, including in the nonprofit sector.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating a remote workforce and operating efficiently in a virtual environment.
  • Demonstrated project management experience and expertise. 
  • Demonstrated data literacy and experience using cloud-based CRM systems (especially Microsoft Dynamics) to recruit, manage, and engage a network.
  • Thorough understanding of financial and budgeting processes and principles.
