Your Role …

The Website and Graphic Design Specialist oversees the maintenance and development of the Council’s website to elevate the Council’s mission across digital spaces. The position tracks the engagement of the Council’s audience and adapts new strategies to foster further engagement. This person works closely with all departments and initiatives to promote the Council’s programmatic work and to meet development objectives. The position handles design needs for publications, and promotional materials, and digital properties, and collaborates in the development, maintenance, and advancement of the Council’s brand. 

This position requires experience in website management and maintenance, as well as graphic design experience preferably in the nonprofit sector.

As with all positions at the Council, this position requires commitment to the Council’s mission.

Candidates in Washington, DC are preferred, although this position may be performed remotely. Council employees will be working remotely until the end of 2021 due to COVID-19.

Minimum Requirements 

To perform successfully in this role, incumbent should possess skills identified below:

  • At least 3 years of experience with digital strategy and website development.
  • At least 1-3 years of experience in creative design, media and/or public relations.
  • Experience with digital engagement of audiences for the purposes of development or otherwise within the non-profit sector.
  • Training in communications, marketing, and/or web/graphic design.
  • Strong project management skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all types of individuals both internal and external, in a wide variety of areas.
  • Excellent and persuasive writing/editing and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to organize, multi-task, and prioritize multiple projects at a time.

A Bachelor's Degree is required 

Essential Job Functions

Website Management and Strategy

  • Proficiency in website design and website maintenance, both regular updates and larger website-related projects, preferably in Drupal and WordPress.
  • Thinks strategically about how to best use the Council’s website to showcase our programmatic work and value to users.
  • Improve the Council’s website to expand its reach and improve the user experience.
  • Manage the production and posting of content to the Council’s website.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems that arise with the website and serve as a liaison to our web support vendor.
  • Manage and collaborate with external web developers to regularly enhance and update the Council’s website.  
  • Update, maintain, and improve the Council’s website and related metrics by regularly reviewing web server and application performance.
  • Assist in the Search Engine Optimization of content to generate traffic.
  • Direct and manage contractors to develop digital assets and content including web developers, graphic designers, paid social media advertisers, and Google Grants.

Digital Strategy

  • Identify opportunities and strategies to engage and grow the Council’s audience across digital channels to showcase the Council’s work and capitalize on development opportunities. 
  • Regularly assess trends and activity to enhance content performances. Monitor accepted practices for social media and research potential new channels to promote Council brand.

Graphic Design and Brand Management

  • Create the look, layout and features of digital properties (web design). 
  • Design the layout for Council publications, graphics, and collateral materials consistent with the Council’s brand.
  • Assist in developing the Council’s brand, voice, and online reputation across digital channels

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

To perform successfully in this role, incumbent should possess skills identified below:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working in Drupal and WordPress
  • Proficient with the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop and InDesign 
  • Advanced HTML and CSS skills.
  • Active listening and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage competing demands/multiple assignments through effective time management.
  • Ability to follow through on commitments and take responsibility for actions. 
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, strategies, and circumstances. 
  • Ability to implement plans, make mid-course corrections as necessary and overcome obstacles.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Demonstrable ability to develop and manage a work plan with multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to engage, influence, and inspire others.
