Statement from NAE Executive Director on the Situation in Afghanistan, the SIV Program, and Refugee Resettlement

In response to the situation in Afghanistan, New American Economy issued the following statement:

“In light of the dire situation unfolding in Afghanistan, New American Economy reiterates our steadfast support for U.S. refugee resettlement and the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program for Afghans who worked on behalf of the U.S. government. We are committed to actively assisting the organizations and communities leading efforts to resettle these and other refugees with research, storytelling, technical assistance, and other measures,” said Jeremy Robbins, Executive Director of New American Economy. “Refugees—as well as Afghan translators and interpreters who qualify for the SIV program—strengthen our communities and economy, and we strongly believe America should continue to be a leader in offering refuge and safe haven to individuals fleeing violence and persecution.”
