The American Immigration Council joined a letter signed by 156 organizations calling on the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to take concrete steps to protect the right to abortion after the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs. The letter calls on DHS to take steps to protect the right to an abortion for individuals held in DHS custody, but also to instruct Border Patrol not to prevent undocumented individuals from travelling through a checkpoint if they are seeking medical treatment for reproductive health care such as an abortion.
