The American Immigration Council led other organizations in a letter urging the Biden administration to take all measures necessary to block the return of the inhumane and unlawful Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), which was reinstated by a federal judge in Texas on August 13 who issued a preliminary injunction ordering the Department of Homeland Security to “enforce and implement MPP in good faith.” The letter calls on the administration to do everything in its power to prevent this order from going into effect, up to and including an emergency appeal to the Supreme Court. MPP, also known as Remain in Mexico, inflicted extreme harm on vulnerable people seeking asylum at the border and created extreme obstacles to due process.
