Follow-up Coalition Letter Urges Reconsideration of Custody Determination for Every Person in ICE Custody

Letters

Published: March 29, 2021

The American Immigration Council joined the National Immigrant Justice Center, National Immigration Project, We Are Home Campaign, and over 150 other organizations in urging Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Tae Johnson, and Domestic Policy Council Deputy Director Esther Olavarria to prioritize the implementation of a file review process, initiated by ICE, to reconsider the custody determination for every person currently in ICE custody.

The letter highlights deficiencies in ICE’s case review process, and calls on the federal government to meaningfully consider all people in custody for release. The letter is a follow-up to a separate letter sent to DHS and ICE on February 18th.
