As our nation’s capital and epicenter of international relations, it is no surprise that a large and growing share of the Washington, D.C. population is made up of immigrants. Today almost one out of every seven people living in the district was born in another country. That percentage has steadily ticked up in recent years. As recently as 1990, less than 10 percent of the District of Columbia’s population was made up of immigrants.
