Testifying on the Catastrophic Economic and Humane Costs of Mass Deportations

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, Senior Fellow, testified before the U.S. Senate to explain the catastrophic economic and humane costs of mass deportations.

The testimony explains:

  • the millions of dollars in tax contributions that the U.S. would lose
  • the industries that would be devasted by workforce raids and deportations
  • the need for Congress to create a new path to permanent legal status for undocumented people already living here (a “line” for them to stand in)

The testimony concludes that Congressional action to deport millions of undocumented people from the United States will stunt economic growth, increase costs of goods, and devastate multiple industries.
