Ilana Greenstein

Senior Managing Attorney

Ilana Etkin Greenstein is the Senior Managing Attorney at the American Immigration Council. In that capacity, she is a national resource for attorneys and mentors engaged in pro bono detained removal defense including, release from detention, substantive relief, motions to reopen, and related federal court litigation. Before joining the Campaign, Ilana spent close to 20 years in private practice in Boston, Massachusetts. Her work covered all aspects of immigration law, with a particular focus on removal defense and appellate litigation. She appeared regularly before the nation’s federal courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals and the Immigration Courts. Ilana is an adjunct faculty member at Northeastern University School of Law. She holds a J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law, and a B.A. in Spanish and International Studies from Macalester College. She served on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild (1996-2002 and 2009-2010), as well as on numerous AILA national and local committees, and is frequently called upon to mentor other practitioners, and to present at professional seminars and conferences.
