Your Role. . . 

The Director of Development Operations is a development operations leader who enhances and strengthens the Council’s fundraising capabilities and infrastructure. The Director of Development Operations is responsible for ensuring operational excellence, efficiency, and rigor in implementing the Council’s fundraising strategy, providing data analysis to processes and reporting in support of fundraising. The position is responsible for the management and oversight of the Council’s fundraising systems. 

The Director will have experience in nonprofit development operations including expert knowledge of fundraising CRMs and information technology, gift acceptance and processing practices and policies, fundraising reporting, and financial reconciliation. Additionally, this individual must have the ability to provide training and accurate information to leadership in a timely manner. The Director of Development Operations will exhibit strong strategic thinking abilities. Along with technical acumen, this position requires strong interpersonal, managerial skills, and the ability to be a team player. This position reports to the Chief Development Officer and will supervise the Development Operations Manager.

Essential Job Functions. . . 

  • Takes a leadership role in ensuring the Council's success in meeting annual fundraising goals.
  • Serves as a strategy partner with CDO in ensuring the Council's success in meeting its fundraising goals. 
  • Develops, implements, and monitors fundraising systems including reporting mechanisms, information technology, and data infrastructure to support operations as they relate to all fundraising programs consistent with the Council’s strategic plan.
  • Oversees the timely and accurate production of all gift reporting, statistical analyses, and evaluations. 
  • Supervises gift acceptance, processing, recording, and tracking.
  • Oversees the Council’s adherence to gift policies and donor intent. 
  • Monitors IRS regulations as they pertain to gift acceptance, processing, and acknowledgements, ensuring the Council’s practices are consistent and compliant with all regulations. 
  • Serves as a liaison to the Finance Department on financial reporting, reconciliation, tracking, projections, and other issues. 
  • Participates in external and internal audits, oversees implementation of audit recommendations. 
  • Works with the Chief Development Officer to assess and determine appropriate technologies including the Council’s fundraising CRM, managing projects related to selection, installation, implementation, and maintenance of fundraising technologies.
  • Provides leadership, training, mentoring, and support to a remote team.
  • Manages and supports prospect research including contact screenings, prospecting, and development of robust donor profiles.
  • Serves as liaison and partner with the Council’s IT department on ensuring the department’s compliance with organizational policies and practices.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent in work experience
  • 5+ years of experience in progressively more responsible management and supervisory roles for a comparable nonprofit development operations program. 
  • 5+ years of experience as a fundraising CRM administrator; experience with EveryAction, a plus.
  • Ability to develop and manage a strategic plan with multiple projects and deadlines.
