Your Role. . . 

The Media Engagement Specialist helps articulate and advance the Council’s strategic priorities. This position reports to the Director of Strategic Communications to formulate and execute strategic communications plans and messaging to promote the Council’s programmatic work and meet fundraising objectives. This position requires careful analysis, planning, creativity, passion, leadership and cooperation. 

The position also ensures quality assurance, control, and consistency across all communication portfolio channels. 

As with all positions at the Council, this position requires commitment to the Council’s mission and the organization’s culture of philanthropy.

Essential Job Functions. . . 

Strategic Communications – Participate in the development and implementation of communications strategies for the Council’s legal, policy and research work in collaboration with other staff. Develop messaging around our legal and transparency cases and research and policy products and design plans that include traditional and new media strategies. 

Media Relations – Coordinate the Council’s media relations for selected major cases and policy and research departments’ rollouts, including writing press releases, pitching stories to media, responding to incoming media inquiries, and coordinating telephonic press conferences.

Website and Branding General Support – Collaborate with team on communications strategy for website postings and assist in the Search Engine Optimization of content to generate traffic. Additionally, manage and enforcing the voice and visual identity of the Council across channels.

Webinar Events – Develop and manage strategy, offering, and content of Council Webinars, including communications with constituents and donors. Help staff plan webinar content and panelist moderator questions. Help coordinate with external partners for webinars and draft talking points and agenda for webinar events. 

Email Communication  – Leading all media communications through the Cision platform including press releases, reporter resource alerts, and all other Cision blasts. Sending out media blasts through CRM to the Council’s earned media list. Assist with posting press releases to the Council website news page.

Requirements
  • BA/BS or 3-5 years of relevant experience in communications, and/or public policy work, including significant writing and communications responsibilities. 
  • College level coursework in a creative field to include marketing, digital content delivery, or media. 
  • Experience with the use of websites and social media as communications tools is required. 
  • Nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Communications support of legal work and/or research and advocacy preferred.

Annual Salary Range: $80,000 – $85,000
